Last week we had a bobcat come in and scrap away the old yard.

Crusher dust was brought in to make the new drive round driveway.

Topsoil was brought in for the new garden beds.

Native plants were purchased and an irrigation dripper system fitted.

Ten (10) solar lights were fitted along the line separating the drive round driveway and the garden area.

A number of ceramic ornaments made by my wife have been placed in the garden area.

This was all done whilst I was in Adelaide working – seeing it all finished in a week was a very big surprise!

This is our 12 of 12 for February 2009. The 12th of February was a Thursday. I forgot to take my camera to work so all of my 12 of 12 photos were taken after work.

Having taken a photo of the petrol station price board in January, it will be interesting to compare on a month to month basis the price of fuel over the year.

Compared to January ULP increased 28.4c/ltr and LPG increased by 18.4c/ltr.

The loss of life is devastating. The number of deaths are being revised hourly.

Viewing the news footage one can’t imagine what it must have been like for those caught in the middle.

EDIT: As at 10 February 2009 at least 173 people confirmed dead with the number expected to top 200.

Totally unbelievable. The worse natural disaster in Australian history.

Over the past few days I’ve updated WordPress to version 2.7. Tweaked the CSS style sheets for the website. Exported content from my other domains and imported that content into this domain. This will result in me having to only maintain one website in lieu of the number that I was previously maintaing.

This should enable me to make updates more frequently than I have this year.

All content has been reviewed and any posts deemed irrelevant have deen deleted.

The campout is the longest running hot rod event in South Australia, according to organiser Denis Oates. A “Show and Shine” was conducted today outside the Renmark Hotel.

This Easter we had family from Adelaide come up and visit us. We then took them around the tourist sites in the Riverland.

On Friday we drove to Renmark (20kms approx) and enjoyed a short walk along the riverbank. I took some photos of the ducks and a pelican. After this we crossed the Paringa Bridge and visited Lock 5 before returning to Berri.

Saturday was a quiet day with a BBQ in the afternoon with some of our friends.

IMG_0580a.jpgSunday morning we drove to Loxton (25kms approx) and had a look at “The Tree of Knowledge” where the flood levels have been reported. I can’t comprehend just how much water must have been around looking at the 1956 plaque. As we drove further down the track we were surprised by just how many people were camping on the riverbank.

We then took a leisurely drive to Kingston-on-Murray and I took some photos from the Kingston-on-Murray lookout before driving through Barmera on our way back to Berri.

Early on Monday our family left to return to Adelaide hoping to avoid the rush later on in the day.

This morning we went for a walk along the riverfront towards Martin’s Bend. Opposite the Berri Caravan Park there is a 4 kilometre return walking trail along the riverfront to Martin’s Bend.

As a young boy aged 10, I recall spending a week camped at Martin’s Bend in the early 1970′s during the summer school holidays. The next two summer holidays included a week each year on the Swan Houseboats which were based at Berri.

Next week we intend walking the trail. There are interperative displays which details the significance of the wetlands along this part of the river.

Berri Barmera Council has advised that vehicle access to bushland areas is restricted at Martin’s Bend, a popular tourist and camping spot in Berri. Parts of Martins Bend are often used for long-term camping.
